Serena and Venus Williams

This is my 10th Summer Learning Journey post for Day 4 Week 1 Activity 1 year 6-8. I had to watch 2 videos about Serena and Venus Williams and one was about women who play tennis pay rights and the other was about their accomplishments. What I found hard while doing this task was finding key things about the two sisters that I learnt. But I got there. Here is my post about Serena and Venus Williams!

  1. Hello Sophie,

What an awesome and informative slideshow you have put together! You have identified three great facts, the text is easy to read, and I love your use of colour too.

Did you know that Serena Williams has been playing Tennis since she was 3 years old? It’s crazy how good these sisters are.

It is frustrating to see that even though Serena Williams has won more than Novak Djokovic, she is being paid less. I think people are still getting used to watching Women play sports professionally, so hopefully we will see a change towards pay equality in this decade, what do you think?

Is Tennis a sport you play? I played a little bit in School, but I think the Williams sisters would easily cut me down to size haha.

    Keep it up Sophie :)

  2. Thanks for the good comment, Beren! Wow, that is amazing! How would she be able to hold a racket when she was that young? It is still very unfair that women who play tennis are getting payed less but hopefully the Williams sisters will show the men that they are equally as good! I play a bit at school during lunch time but most of us who play don't play properly!

    1. Hi Sophie,

Yes I think you are absolutely right, I think the Williams sisters are changing things. Did you know that Serena is in New Zealand at the moment? She just one another grand slam at the Auckland ASB classic competition. She has still got it!

  3. Thanks for the awesome reply, Beren! She is just amazing! I thought that because NZ is a little country the really famous sports players would not come here. But I was wrong!
