3D Printed Prosthetics

Here is another Summer Learning Journey post for Day 3 Week 3 Activity 2 year 6-8. For this task I was told to watch a video about 3D Printed Prosthetics. Then I had to make a post about one thing I learnt and one thing that surprised me while watching the video. What I found hard while making this post was trying to find something I learnt. Here is my post about 3D Printed Prosthetics!

  1. Kia ora Sophie,

Thanks for creating this blog post! That's so cool that you were amazed by this. I think it’s pretty amazing too, what a great initiative to help children and adults who need prosthetics. e-NABLE are so very clever.

Can you imagine how challenging life would be with only one hand? These prosthetic limbs must be life changing.

Have you ever used a 3D printer before? If you had one, what would you make?

Well done on creating this blog post Sophie :)

  2. Thanks for the great comment, Beren! It would be really hard and you might get laughed at because you have a disability but one of the people who didn't let that stop them was Sophie Pascoe! She kept going even though she only had one leg losing her other one in a lawn mover accident when she was a toddler. I have used one at a kids convenience thing and we were using it to creative little houses and stuff from our computers.I think I would follow in e-NABLE's footsteps and make hundreds of prosthetic hands and arms.

    1. Kia ora Sophie,

Sophie Pascoe a great example! I think her story is pretty inspiring and I am glad you think so too.

That's pretty cool that you got to make some creative little houses. Of course you would make hundreds of prosthetic limbs, how kind of you! I think I would definitely do the same, however, it would also be fun to make a couple things for myself. Like my own personalised coffee mug! Would you make anything for yourself?

  3. Thanks for the fantastic reply, Beren! I would quite like to make a few ornaments like a Dolphin, a Horse and an Elephant to go on my duchess!

    1. Hi Sophie,

Oh wow, that's such a neat idea. Are those some of your favourite animals? I bet that it's quite addictive. Once you start 3D-printing it must be hard to stop!

  4. Thanks for the fantastic reply, Beren! I just thought they would look really cute and pretty, 3D-printed but my favourite animals would have to be Dogs, Cats and Farm Animals! Yes, it would be very hard to stop make things!

  5. Hi Sophie, Hannah here. I like your post. Do you think that it is cool that people are helping people without hands or arms? Next time you could maybe add some more colour. From Hannah
