A Starry NIght

This is another Summer Learning Journey post for Day 2 Week 3 Activity 1 year 6-8. For this task I was told to look at a picture, then I had to describe what I saw. Here is the link to the picture that I had to look at. What I found hard while making this post was trying to look at the picture really closely. Here is my post about A Starry Night.

A Starry Night
I can see a sky that’s full of swirls of blue. Thousands of stars floated in the sky. The hills where like waves rising and falling. The village was just a variety of colours. The church top was seen for miles. A huge fire arose on the hillside. But this one was black and peculiar.

  1. Hi Sophie,

This is a really creative description of Van Gogh’s Starry Night. I like the language you have used to describe this dream-like painting. My favourite lines are “swirls of blue” and “the hills where like waves rising and falling’. This is quite a poetic description and I think it matches the painting well.

I also like your interpretation of the black and peculiar fire. I always saw this black image as a tall tree, but now that you mention it, it does look a lot like a dark raging fire.

Isn’t that cool how we can interpret this painting in different ways?

Do you like painting? I tried to paint a copy of Starry Night once for fun, but found it super challenging.

Well done on another blog post Sophie :)

  2. Thanks for the lovely comment, Beren! That is really cool and it just shows how every single person in the world has different opinions and in general we are all different. I like painting but I don't think I am very good at it! :( The person who painted Starry Night would have been very talented to make such a beautiful painting!

    1. You are so welcome Sophie!

Yes it is pretty cool! Vincent Van Gogh created some amazing artworks. But did you know that he only became popular after he died? In fact, he only ever sold 1 painting while he was alive!

It's a bit sad, but now his artwork is appreciated all over the world.

Here is one of my favourite paintings by him if you are interested - https://pixels.com/featured/10-cafe-terrace-at-night-vincent-van-gogh.html

      Take care,
      Beren

  4. I just had a look at that painting! It is soo beautiful! I love how the stone paths look as if they are little bumps coming out of the road and the sky looks an iceberg hovering above the lit up village!
