How Write an Information Report

Following on from my polar bears information report... this week I picked to make a google drawing about how to make an information report. I used my own report for the example and singled out the things that I need to work on, and things I did well with some helpful  comments from my teacher. If you can't read the text in the report then you can just scroll down and look at the full picture of my information report. Here is my poster on how to write an information report!

Polar Bears

In class at the moment we are focusing on information reports during writing. We have a writing bingo that includes lots of fun activities that include writing information reports. When my writing group was working with the teacher we picked to do a report on Polar Bears.  I found it fun and challenging trying to find interesting and scientific words to use in my writing. Here is my information report about Polar Bears!

Polar Bears are hypercarnivorous and they are part of the ursidae family. They are the second largest meat eating land animal along with the Kodiak Bear. But even though they might look cute and harmless don’t be deceived because Polar Bears have a few tricks up their sleeve and some are even deadly.

A Polar Bear’s coat is actually not white it is vacant and the sun reflects off it to make the fur look like it is white or even yellow at times. The rays of sunlight also help to warm a Polar Bear’s black skin which helps it survive in below zero conditions. The bear’s huge feet have hirsute soles which help shield and cover as well as terminating the likeness of the bear skidding on the ice. The Polar Bear is also the largest land carnivore beating the brown bear, tiger and lion.

The Polar bear’s scientific name is Ursus maritimus which is Latin for Maritime Bear which basically means a bear that lives near the sea.  They live in the Artic district which is an ocean surrounded by different sized sections of land. The average temperature in winter is Artic is -34 degrees which signifies why only a few species of animals live there. Polar Bear’s can adjust to these conditions by using there layer of fat and thick layer of insulated fur to keep their body warm during the dark winter’s.

The Polar Bear’s diet is predominantly based upon a variety of different types of Seals. The Ringed Seal is found principally in the Artic region and is a recurring meal for the ice bear. Polar bears need to maintain their body weight by catching a ringed seal which weigh up to 70 kgs or the bearded seal that can weigh up to a whopping 280 kgs. If the bear has any luck of catching these seals or other seals the blubber should last them for a couple of days and sustain their stature and energy levels.

Overall, the polar bear is a magnificent creature that has been around for thousands of years and hopefully we can help keep the ice from melting so they can live for thousands of years to come.

Geometric Art

This term in Room 6 we are trying to get as much work done as we can and one of the activities for maths was to draw some geometric art. I had to watch a video on how to draw it and then we had to colour it in and glue it to a square piece of paper. Here is the link to the video if you think this art is cool.
